Rumination has been linked to non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), but despite this link, there is limited understanding of how rumination is represented at the neurobiological level. With these results, activation in certain areas of the brain indicate that adolescents with a history of NSSI have difficulty moving away from rumination when presented with a distraction task.
